I Do Suppose "God Is A Lightbulb"

God. Think of him.

Imagine some white guy surrounded by clouds? Yeah, me too. But why? Is that the way the media have portrayed him? Is it because he might look slightly like your Grandad? Have you noticed that all forms of public media seem to bypass ‘him’? Quite ridiculous really.

Well, what is God? Is it blasphemy to think that the ‘mere’ human mind can even begin to understand what he is? Is it? If he is so great, then why does he need us meagre beings to worship him? Surely that’d be like us being worshipped by a large colony of ants, each using their own method and way, all or none of them correct. Now, that’d be weird. But I suppose it works.

We could alter their homes, and they wouldn’t have a clue what we were doing. We could make unexplainable things happen, slaughter them by the thousands with one stamp of our foot, make water appear from nowhere, and create heat just like that. Simple. Now, we don’t necessarily think of ourselves as the highest of all high, that’s what God is. If we are ant’s God, and God is our God…who is God’s God? And so on. An unending hierarchy.

Ants worshipping us? What is that to us? To the vast majority of us they are nothing. Just simply don’t really exist. Don’t really affect us. Pointless, you could say. We don’t think twice about squashing the odd one or two. To us they don’t have a mind. Just a ‘get food, eat food’ policy. Their minds are just so small and the thought of them having thoughts beyond this policy is instantly crushed by our prejudices.

What if God thought about us like this? He probably does you know, if he exists. We are nothing to him.

I personally believe that we are shrouded in darkness. And we are scared of the dark, and so God is our kinda of lightbulb. He lights up this darkness. It’s like sometimes you’re in bed, and you swear you heard something, but you try to convince yourself you did. After minutes of pondering, you decide to switch the light on. 


There’s nothing there of course, but you feel better, assured that it’s alright. God is this light. With no God to worship and look up to, we’re intimidated. So God is the light. 


Quite ridiculous really.
